1. When do I need a building permit?
A: The answer varies; you may contact the Building Official at 756-8510 for details or go to the City of North Bend web site at www.northbendcity.org.

2. Can I do my own work?
A: Yes, for residential you may do all the electrical and plumbing for the dwelling in the event the property is not for sale, lease or rent.

3. Do I have to hire an architect or engineer to draw plans?
A: In most cases no; however if the structure is complicated or a commercial building it may be required.

4. How long does it take for my permit to be issued?
A: For residential it usually takes 10 working days. Commercial permits could take up to several months.

A: Council meetings are held on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. in the council chambers at 835 California in North Bend.

2. Do you do brush pickup?
A: No, North Bend Sanitation does and can be reached at 756-5211.

3. Can I pay my ticket at city hall?
A: We accept payments for parking tickets only. All other tickets need to be paid at the North Bend Coos County Annex located at 1975 McPherson

4. Is this where I call to rent the community center?
A: Yes, the community center is located at 2222 Broadway, and rentals are handled at North Bend City Hall. Please call Rose Libbett at 541-756-8801 for details.

5. Do you accept credit or debit cards for payment?
A: No, we take cash, cashier’s checks, money orders, or checks for most payments. We take “cash only” for impound fees.

6. Can I verify employment?
A: Yes, employment information requests need to be faxed to City Recorder Angie Kellar in writing at 541-756-8527.

7. Do you do lien searches?
A: Yes, for $15.00, we can perform a city lien search. However, since all city liens are filed with the county, it may be your preference to perform only one lien search with the County Assessor who can be reached at 396-3121.

8. Are you open during 12:00-1:00? A: Yes, we are open Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. except holidays 9. Is this the Coos County Annex, what is their phone number? A: No, the Coos County Annex phone number is 756-2020. 10. What is the phone number for the airport?
A: The Southwest Oregon Regional Airport, which is located at 2348 Colorado Avenue in North Bend can be reached at 541-756-8531.

1. Where do I get a burn permit?
A: You may call the North Bend Police Department at 756-3161 to request a burn permit for open burns and burn barrels.

2. How do I become a Volunteer Firefighter?
A: Stop by the North Bend Fire Department at 1880 McPherson and pick up an application packet from Training Officer Brian Waddington.

3. Where can I obtain a Fire Department patch/logo?
A: Send a letter to Fire Chief Scott Graham at P.O. Box B, North Bend, OR 97459 requesting a patch or trade us one from your city.

4. When are the volunteer firefighter meetings scheduled?
A: Each Wednesday, at 7:00 p.m. at the Main Fire Station located at 1880 McPherson. Stop by and become a volunteer!

5. How many volunteers and paid staff does the City of North Bend Fire Department have?
A: The City of North Bend Fire Department has 12 paid staff members and currently 34 volunteers.

6. When is your Pankcake Feed?
A: The Annual Fire Department Pancake Feed is held each year on Palm Sunday.

7. When is your Open House?
A: The Annual Fire Department Open House is held each year in conjunction with Fire Prevention Week. This is usually in mid-October. Check back on the web site for exact dates and times.

8. Does the Fire Department do home inspections?
A: Yes, call the main Fire Station at 756-7757 to make an appointment and we will be happy to assist you!

9. How much equipment does the North Bend Fire Department have?
A: The North Bend Fire Department has on inventory the following fire and rescue equipment: 3 engines; 1 tender; 1 Quimt; 3 boats; 2 ARFF engines; 1 wildland engine and 1 rescue vehicle.

10. Do you have a dive team?
A: Yes, the City of North Bend Fire Department has a fully equipped 8 member dive team.

1. Do you have to reserve the shelters and surrounding group areas?
A: Yes, shelters and group areas located at Simpson Park and Ferry Road Park are NOT first come-first served. You must be signed up for and have reserved the shelters for the desired use dates. Please contact the Parks Department at 756-2656 for availability and to reservations.

2. Is there a fee for using the group shelters?
A: No, there is no fee; you just have to be registered to use the shelters for the day of your event.

3. How many city parks are there in North Bend?
A: There are 7 parks within the City of North Bend. - Ferry Road Park - Winsor Park (Frisbee golf course) - Simpson Park - Airport Heights Park - College Park (Oak Street Park) - Commercial Street Park - Boynton Park

4. How late are the parks open?
A: City parks are open between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. unless otherwise posted.

1. How can I get a Restraining Order?
A: The person you are filing against must have: - caused you bodily injury or - attempted to cause you bodily injury - placed you in fear of imminent bodily injury or - forced you to have sex against your will You are eligible to get a Restraining Order against the following people: -someone you are married to or previously married to -someone you were in a sexually intimate relationship with in the last 2 years -adults related by blood, marriage, or adoption -a person not married to you with whom you have a child who is unmarried and under the age of 18.

2. How do I get a copy of a police report?
A: If the case has been adjudicated, contact the records clerk at the Police Department (756-3161). The cost is $10.00 for most reports. If the case is still pending, only the District Attorney can release the report.

3. How long can an abandoned vehicle stay parked on a city street?
A: The law allows 72 hours. Call the Police Department at 756-3161 and the vehicle will be “Red Tagged” which notifies in writing the last registered owner that vehicle will be towed.

4. We are thinking of moving to North Bend. How safe is the community?
A: North Bend is one of Oregon’s safest communities. We have a very small amount of crime against our citizens.

5. How do I obtain a burn permit?
A: For a burn barrel permit come to the Police Station located at 835 California Street and you can obtain a permit for one year at no cost. For an “open burn” you can call the Police Station at 756-3161 and obtain a one (1) to three (3) day permit at no cost.

6. How do I obtain a criminal history check?
A: The Oregon State Police are the proper agency to contact for criminal history checks. You can reach them at 888-2677.

7. Where can I get fingerprinted?
A: The Coos County Jail staff will fingerprint the general public; however, you must make an appointment by calling 756-2020.

8. How do I retrieve my car after being impound?
A: You must have the vehicles registration, proof of insurance, show proof of ownership; have a valid driver present and $75.00 (cash only) for the administrative fee. Bring those items to the North Bend Police Station and your vehicle will be released.

9. What are the current road conditions?
A: The North Bend dispatchers can provide you with the local road conditions by calling 756-3161 and for traveling conditions outside our local area call 1-800-977-6368.

10. How do I contract animal control?
A: Coos County is the agency that handles animal control. You can contact them at 269-2312 for more information.

1. Does the City of North Bend issue electrical and plumbing permits?
A: No, the State Building code office issues all electrical and plumbing permits for the City of North Bend. Their office is located at 749 Riverside Drive, Coquille, Oregon or you may contact them at 541-396-4686.

2. Does the City of North Bend require a business license?
A: The City of North Bend requires a use occupancy permit for all home base and commercial buildings within the city limits. You may contact the Planning Department at 756-8525 for further information.

3. Is the Public Works Department open during the lunch hour?
A: Yes, the Public Works Department which includes engineering, planning and building is open 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, except holidays.

4. What are the setback and zoning requirements for my property?
A: Contact the City Planner at 541-756-8535 for further information regarding your property zoning and setbacks.

5. Who do I contact for a sewer locate?
A: Contact the Engineering Department at 541-756-8532.

6. Who do I contact for brush pickup?
A: Contact Les Sanitation at 541-756-5211 for further information on this semi-annual event. 7. Before digging, who do I notify for utility locates on my property? A: Call the Oregon Utility notification center at 1-800-332-2344 they will be happy to assist you.

1. Who is responsible for street lights?
A: Pacific Power is responsible for the maintenance of street lights. Please record the pole number located on the light pole and call the Public Works Department at 756-8532 to report any problems or outages and they will notify Pacific Power.

2. Who is responsible for sidewalks and sidewalk repairs?
A: The property owner is responsible for the sidewalk located in front of their property. City of North Bend Code 12.20.010 states: The owners of property adjoining any street in the City of North Bend shall have the duty to maintain a safe condition of repair, free of hazards and obstructions, of any sidewalk adjacent to their property, and shall be liable for any injuries or damages resulting from a failure to comply with such duty. Code 12.20.020 states: The City of North Bend shall not be liable for injuries or damages resulting from a failure to maintain sidewalks in a safe condition of repair, free of hazards and obstructions, except where such sidewalk is adjacent to property owned by the City of North Bend.

3. Who maintains the trees in alleys and rights-of-ways?
A: All trees within the rights-of-way are the responsibility of the adjoining property owners. Adjacent land owners are responsible for the tree maintenance and any damages caused by the trees.

4. Why does the City of North Bend grade gravel streets but does not supply the rock?
A: The city does not maintain unimproved streets, but will grade as a courtesy to the property owners in the event a grader is available and the gravel is provided by the property owners. Please contact the Street Department for further information at 756-8530.

5. When is the City of North Bend going to fix my street?
A: Patching is done when notified, however major repairs and replacement to be performed when funding becomes available.

6. Who is the Street Maintenance Supervisor?
A: Public Works Superintendent Bob Dillard. You can reach Mr. Dillard at 541-756-6078.

1. What causes line blockage?
A: Grease is the number one item from residential and commercial. Roots also cause blockage to lines.

2. Why are sewer rates higher than water?
A: There are higher fixed costs that include routine cleaning and t.v. of lines, along with root treatment.
